The chatter stop is an idea which comes from the increased importance of speaking and listening within the New Framework and the Letters and Sounds phonics scheme. It encourages children to speak and listen to each other. A suggestion would be to print and laminate the posters and to create a comfy seating area for example with cushions/bean bags/comfy chairs for them to sit on. Laminate the ears contained within the pack and attach to a hair band. I have purchased a light up microphone for the speaker to hold – teddies or an object would do the same job. The children can then establish their roles as speaker/listener. I have also put in pictures from past visits, our class pet book as possible points for discussion. I have also had discussion points during topical times for example Halloween, holidays or Christmas.
